David Beckham has
shown the world that soccer is more about the passion for the game than the
money involved in it.
The Spice Boy, who is
now 37 years old, has signed a contract with French club team, Paris Saint
Germain (PSG), to add to his professional resume another big European team name
with the same caliber as his previous ones (Manchester United, Real Madrid, and
AC Milan).
Though, what is
curious and very admirable about his new contract is that he will not get paid
for playing for PSG. Yes, you read correctly. Becks will be playing for free,
as he has decided that all of his salary be donated to poor children in France.
This is not only a
great gesture by the popular English player and fashion model, but it also
proves that he loves the game for the fun of it more than for the profit out of
it.
In addition, let’s
remember that Beckham has been an amazing soccer ambassador in the Major League
Soccer, where he just finished playing for the LA Galaxy (past six seasons) and
served as an instrument to help soccer grow in The U.S. as a whole by adding
more talent to the league, improving its value, motivating other quality
players to join it, interesting more American people into playing and/or
following this worldwide sport, and attracting more sponsors to invest in it.
David Beckham, without
a doubt, has done his part for the well being of this beautiful and exciting
sport, as well as for the fans and people in need... Hats off to him!
